Ignorance.

What really saddens me is when at times we don't understand the importance of having foreign workers and treat them like animals. Whenever we walk pass a group of Bangladesh workers resting under the HDB blocks, the first impression of them would be thinking of them as low-class human beings.
Meanwhile there would be stereotypes going around that Banglas would be commiting the crimes and it's dangerous to be around them.
Recently, there has been a video circulating online. Apparently a group of students decide to do a project on the lives of the Bangladesh workers and interviewed them on their lives. After watching the video, a feeling of remourse surged through me. It was as though we have always taken those workers for granted.
The truth is, those workers have no choice but to come over to Singapore to do hard labour in order to support their family back in Bangladesh. They live in such poor living conditions(8 men sharing one small room) and were paid ridiculously low. In an interview, there is an Indian man who says that he gets only $18 per day. Any part-timers in Singapore would probably earn 4 times more than him per day. Calculation was done and we found out that the worker would only earn about $550 per month and he has to send $400 back to his family; having only $150 for his living expenses for that month. With such poor conditions they were forced to come here to work for us, yet we Singaporeans often complain about them. This is something which I don't understand. When we see them, we don't see them as one of us and yet they have in fact nothing particular different from us.
This is how I feel about this situation.

Anyway,
Here's the video.

I have no idea how others may feel about the video but anyway I hope you have watched it and will share it around with your friends; Spread this deep message to those whom you care about.
Appreciate the sacrifices they are making for us.

They didn't have to do this and yet they continue to provide their valuable services to us.
Without them, we would not be able to see beautiful buildings.
Without them, we would not be able to even have a shelter.
We didn't want to do any tough and physical-challenging jobs, so they do it for us.
They are the Invisible Workforce behind the City which is the most important yet no-one notices.
Putting their safety and lives at risk, they still do their jobs without complain.
They truly deserve our respect and appreciation.
That's all for today's post. =)
